Our Name
Eideia means idea in Mirandese, an endangered language in Miranda do Douro, Portugal. The people who speak this language remain at the margins of the dominant culture. They desire to bring, as bell hooks said, the “margin to center.” So do we.
We call ourselves an Institute because we value curiosity. We believe in testing ideas, remaining humble, and that there are many ways to generate knowledge.
